The Advanced Open Water diver course has some basic pre-requisites listed below but essentially any certified diver of almost any age can sign up for the PADI Advanced Open Water course to improve their diver skills & diving knowledge. Don’t trust your diving education to anyone else but Local Dive Thailand at our PADI 5* Dive Center, we will ensure you get the best training at the right price, and have a wonderful time doing it.

We did our Advanced Open Water and Nitrox certification dives with LDT. The enquiring and booking process was seamless and response from the team was very prompt.

Transport was provided to and from our hotel and that made planning very easy for us. Breakfast and lunch provided on the boat was really yummy as well! The boat was also very comfortable with ample seating for all passengers. Staff on the boat were also constantly looking out for our safety and quick to offer help if we needed any.

I would like to specially thank our dive instructor Mood for sharing his expertise and tips for us to become better divers. Mood is very knowledgeable about the local marine life and would constantly point out interesting creatures for us to look at. He also showed us how we can respectfully interact with the marine life without causing damage and shared things that divers should avoid doing in order to preserve the dive sites that we have. Mood’s patient guidance and instruction really helped me to gain more confidence in the water. He also took some really great shots underwater and sent it to us as a wonderful keepsake of our experience!

Highly highly recommend and would definitely choose LDT again when we come back to Phuket to dive! Stephanie – TA Member

Richelieu Rock – Thailand’s Great All Rounder

Very few dive sites can match Richelieu Rock for variety. So much so that it can be a bit of a nightmare for photographers choosing which lens to take. On its day regarded as one of the top ten dive sites in the world and is certainly the best in Thailand. Allegedly 'discovered' by Jacques Cousteau with the help of local fisherman. There is much debate on how Richelieu Rock got its name so it's nice to think that the great man had some involv [...]

Why You Really Shouldn’t Pick Up Sea Shells In Phuket

If you want a souvenir from your scuba diving experience in Phuket then just taking photos is the only option you should be thinking about, picking up sea shells could land you in jail and if that shell is a cone shell then you could end up in more trouble - lots more trouble.... Being snails, unsurprisingly cone shells don't chase down their prey but sneak up on them when they're sleeping. They will bury themselves in the sand in the [...]

Diving From Liveaboards Banned In The Similan Islands

If you're not a fan of diving from dinghies then we have some bad news for you. Diving directly from your liveaboards has now been banned. It's a move that is supposed to protect corals and marine life, personally I've never seen a liveaboard in the Similan Islands National Park go near a reef. Liveaboards will have to keep their distance from the dive site or use official mooring lines. The other reason touted is safety. A diver unfortuna [...]

Nudibranchs of Phuket

These bizarre little creatures are on every Phuket diving site and most stand out like a sore thumb. It's not an animal that Phuket is renowned for. So if you ask your guide what the sluggy looking thing that they pointed out was you may get nudibranch as an answer and if you question further you'll run into some well rehearsed diversion tactics. To be fair to us there are so many species. It would be impossible to know them all, add to th [...]
