Palong Wall – Shark Diving Phuket

Palong Wall is the place for shark diving Phuket. Very rarely do we go here and not see blacktip reef sharks and sometimes in big numbers. If the visibility is good then you can have 10 or more in view. The sharks cruise around on the 5 - 8m deep shelf which runs the entire length of the dive site. They can vary in size from almost 2m long adults to less than a metre long juveniles. Our guides will take you down to the bottom of the reef [...]

honeycomb morays seem to be everywhere

Boonsung Wreck – Khao Lak

The Boonsung wreck was formerly one of many vessels that were used in Thailand's former booming tin mining trade. Allegedly it sank due to a faulty toilet and came to rest on the sandy bottom at 18m. It's located just outside the port at Tablamu near Khao Lak. Originally it was a hazard to shipping and the Thai navy dropped a couple of bombs to level it out a bit. Add that to the damage created by the 2004 tsunami and we're left with somethin [...]

surface marker buoys a critical piece of dive equipment Equipment We Like

Surface Marker Buoys

Surface marker buoys (SMB) wasn't a standard to teach on PADI Open Water courses but it has been for quite a while now. Quite rightly so, surface marker buoys are a cheap yet essential piece of equipment. It's not an understatement to say that they can save lives. Along with mask and fins, it should be one of the first pieces of equipment you purchase. You can get yourself a basic surface marker buoy and finger reel for less than US$20. [...]

A Great Days Diving At Phi Phi And Shark Point

Thankfully there was no wind or waves on our way to divingPhi Phi and Shark Point. Although grey and overcast, a comfortable journey ensued with the hope of better conditions under the waves than we had above. We weren't to be disappointed. Visibility in the bay at Koh Bida Nok was excellent. A quick swim up into the shallows brought a brief glimpse of a couple of blacktip reef sharks cruising around in less than 3m of water. Heading deepe [...]

Back in the 70's two film standards (ASA & DIN) combined to make a standard measure for film sensitivity. Modern digital manufacturers have kept to the same measurements to maintain similar brightness levels as film. Essentially ISO tells your camera how bright the photo s [...]
