What Is PADI elearning ?

Choose PADI elearning For Your Phuket Diving Course And Free Up Valuable Vacation Time

In this digital age books are fast becoming a relic of the past, we can access all the information we need through the internet and diving is no different. 2017 marks the 10 year anniversary of the PADI elearning initiative, the modern way of learning.

Just as you can access your Facebook and instagramm accounts pretty much anywhere at anytime you can do the same with your dive theory and arrive on your holiday safe in the knowledge that you won’t be cooped up in a classroom for hours. After filling out some simple forms and a quick quiz you can head straight to the pool or open water depending on which PADI course you’re enrolling for.

Options?

At the moment there are three main options for PADI Open Water Course:

  • elearning online – requires an internet connection at all times, designed for PC/laptop use. Requires flash so won’t work on iOS and Android devices
  • elearning offline (Touch) – a downloadable version for tablets and smartphones, can be accessed anywhere at anytime
  • elearning lite – a basic version (manual only) does not contain videos, quizzes or exams. You’ll still have some classroom time but you’ll already have a great idea of what to expect

PADI are soon to make one version that will have both the online and offline options, we believe that will be happening some time later this year.

How Do I Sign Up?

That’s fairly straight forward, you can either go directly through the PADI website or get a link from your PADI dive centre (recommended). If you do go directly through PADI then please remember to enter your chosen dive centre’s store number (ours is 23175). The registration is a simple process and you’ll be ready to start learning in minutes. There’s simple instructions for every step and if you get a little confused , contact PADI or your chosen dive centre for help.

What If I Have To Cancel My Trip?

No big issue really, the elearning package is valid for one year from redemption and can used in ANY PADI dive centre. You won’t be able to get a refund for the elearning but when you get a chance to complete your course then any dive centre will reduce the price of the course because you’ve already paid for your certification fees as part of the elearning package.

What Courses Are Available?

The range is continually expanding but at present you can self study at home for:

Is It Worth It?

100% yes, every student who’s completed the elearning before arrival has been glad they’ve done so. Learning to dive in three days is no mean feat and by getting a huge chunk of the course out of the way before arrival frees a lot of time and makes the pool session much more relaxed and fun, there’s simply no need to rush. Of course you’ll also have a much happier instructor – we don’t like being cooped up in a classroom either.

So what are you waiting? Sign up for elearning today and start your life changing experience with us at Local Dive Thailand!

Somboon 3, A very Convenient Thailand Liveaboard

Somboon 3

The sister boats Somboon 3 & 4 are the most flexible boats we have to offer. They both run scheduled 3 Day/ 2 Night trips to Richelieu Rock but in between they stay around the Similan Islands National Park. Neither boat comes back to port until the end of the season and transfers are made via speedboat from Khao lak. This allows divers to stay for just 1 Night/2 Days if you’re on a tight schedule or even just a two dive day trip. Both boats are large and well maintained but they can have a large number of divers for the middle two dives of the day especially in the peak holiday periods around Xmas and New Year. The late afternoon and early morning dives are much less crowded, only o [...]

Thailand Liveaboard SY Diva Andaman

SY Diva Andaman

This oppulent sailing yacht offers a very different experience from the other liveaboards cruising Myanmar and the Mergui Archipelago. Champagne, bathrobes, table service and great cabins give the feel of floating boutique hotel. You half expect a butler offering refreshments to appear during the dives... Two onboard wine cellars, an excellent chef (not to be confused with a cook) serving gourmet food and even bathrobes set the tone for this luxurious cruise. The seven wonderfully appointed wood paneled cabins are more like hotel rooms and feature air-conditioning, en-suite bathrooms, a safe, flat screen TV and a fridge to keep the champagne chilled. There are two twin cabins and f [...]

Hawksbill Sea Turtle Descending from the surface Rare & Peculiar Critters

Meet the Hawksbills of Phi Phi

Sea turtles make for lovely encounters underwater. In Phuket day trip destinations, the species you are most likely to see while diving is the Hawksbill turtle. The name Hawksbill comes from the narrow pointed beak that resembles a bird’s beak. An other distinctive feature is the overlapping scutes pattern on the carapace, giving serrated edges to the upper shell. Hawksbill turtles can grow up to about 115cm in shell length and nearly 70kg in weight. You may encounter Hawksbills in numerous Phuket diving destinations, with very good chances in dive sites around Koh Phi Phi Ley, Koh Bida Nok and Koh Bida Nai. Like other species of sea turtles, the Hawksbill is not bothered muc [...]

Whale Shark in Phuket Rare & Peculiar Critters

It’s International Whale Shark Day But What Do We Know About Them?

Well we know they're big and spotty but not a great deal else to be honest...It's a challenging animal for scientists to study but they're trying and we're slowly gaining an insight into the biggest fish on the planets life and there is a way that you can help (more on that later) There's much debate about the size to which they can grow, 18m is a common figure that's mentioned but the largest verified measurement is around 12m. In Thailand we rarely see whale sharks larger than 6m but this seems to be a global trend and apart from the Galapagos Islands, large whale sharks are becoming increasingly rare. The most studied group of whale sharks (Ningaloo Reef, Australia) now average [...]
