What Is PADI elearning ?

Choose PADI elearning For Your Phuket Diving Course And Free Up Valuable Vacation Time

In this digital age books are fast becoming a relic of the past, we can access all the information we need through the internet and diving is no different. 2017 marks the 10 year anniversary of the PADI elearning initiative, the modern way of learning.

Just as you can access your Facebook and instagramm accounts pretty much anywhere at anytime you can do the same with your dive theory and arrive on your holiday safe in the knowledge that you won’t be cooped up in a classroom for hours. After filling out some simple forms and a quick quiz you can head straight to the pool or open water depending on which PADI course you’re enrolling for.

Options?

At the moment there are three main options for PADI Open Water Course:

  • elearning online – requires an internet connection at all times, designed for PC/laptop use. Requires flash so won’t work on iOS and Android devices
  • elearning offline (Touch) – a downloadable version for tablets and smartphones, can be accessed anywhere at anytime
  • elearning lite – a basic version (manual only) does not contain videos, quizzes or exams. You’ll still have some classroom time but you’ll already have a great idea of what to expect

PADI are soon to make one version that will have both the online and offline options, we believe that will be happening some time later this year.

How Do I Sign Up?

That’s fairly straight forward, you can either go directly through the PADI website or get a link from your PADI dive centre (recommended). If you do go directly through PADI then please remember to enter your chosen dive centre’s store number (ours is 23175). The registration is a simple process and you’ll be ready to start learning in minutes. There’s simple instructions for every step and if you get a little confused , contact PADI or your chosen dive centre for help.

What If I Have To Cancel My Trip?

No big issue really, the elearning package is valid for one year from redemption and can used in ANY PADI dive centre. You won’t be able to get a refund for the elearning but when you get a chance to complete your course then any dive centre will reduce the price of the course because you’ve already paid for your certification fees as part of the elearning package.

What Courses Are Available?

The range is continually expanding but at present you can self study at home for:

Is It Worth It?

100% yes, every student who’s completed the elearning before arrival has been glad they’ve done so. Learning to dive in three days is no mean feat and by getting a huge chunk of the course out of the way before arrival frees a lot of time and makes the pool session much more relaxed and fun, there’s simply no need to rush. Of course you’ll also have a much happier instructor – we don’t like being cooped up in a classroom either.

So what are you waiting? Sign up for elearning today and start your life changing experience with us at Local Dive Thailand!

I've been enjoying the incredible marine life in our oceans for over 25 years. 13 years ago I became a PADI professional, hoping to introduce as many people as possible to the incredible beauty of the seas.

Having been fortunate enough to dive all over south east and especially Thailand, I enjoy sharing my experience and passion on this blog.

Aqualung Regulators At Our Phuket Dive Centre Equipment We Like

A Simple Upgrade That Can Save You $$$!

I'm sure most divers at some stage have rinsed their regulator off after a days diving and forgotten to put the dust cap in place - why it's called a dust cap is a bit of a mystery, it's main purpose is to keep moisture out of your first stage and maybe calling it something more appropriate might trigger good habits in new divers. The auto closure device (ACD) on Aqualung systems has been around for a while but getting it fitted now in the lo [...]

Where To Stay in Phuket Phuket Sights & Fun

Where To Stay In Phuket

Choosing a beach resort for your stay in Phuket has got more and more difficult over the last few years. Great restaurants, bars and hotels have started springing up all over the island. Taking away the necessity to stay in the traditional party town of Patong. As Patong gets more crowded and remains fairly one dimensional, tourists have begun to look at alternatives. Still the busiest place in Phuket and the number one choice for the [...]

Banded Sea Krait At Koh Bida Nok - Phuket Rare & Peculiar Critters

Phuket’s Deadly Pacifist!

If we stumbled across a cobra on our Phuket travels most of us would disappear into the distance screaming yet we can calmly watch a snake with a more toxic venom from just a couple of meters when scuba diving. The yellow lipped banded sea krait has a very powerful myotoxic venom and is probably the only snake you'll encounter on your Thailand holiday. The reason you may hear is that their mouths are too small and they can only bite yo [...]
