The Most Luxurious Similan Islands Liveaboard

Champagne? Don’t mind if I do! Definitely the only Thailand liveaboard that offers a complimentary bottle of bubbly for the guests. This wonderful vessel offers a very different experience from the other boats cruising the Similan Islands and Mergui Archipelago.

Two on-board wine cellars, an excellent chef (not to be confused with a cook) serving gourmet food and even bathrobes set the tone for this luxurious cruise.

The seven wonderfully appointed wood panelled cabins are more like hotel rooms and feature air-conditioning, en-suite bathrooms, a safe, flat screen TV and a fridge to keep the champagne chilled. There are two twin cabins and five double cabins all on the lower deck.

Only 14 guests make a full complement on this fantastic yacht and with 10 crew members to look after your needs you can be sure of some personal attention. Thai massage, nitrox and even kayaks are available, so if a luxury dive cruise is what you’re looking for then this is the boat for you!

Surin Island Dive Site Richelieu Rock

Richelieu Rock – Thailand’s Great All Rounder

Very few dive sites can match Richelieu Rock for variety, so much so that it can be a bit of a nightmare for photographers choosing which lens to take. On it's day regarded as one of the top ten dive sites in the world and is certainly the best in Thailand and allegedly 'discovered' by Jacques Cousteau with the help of local fisherman. There is much debate on how Richelieu Rock got it's name but it's nice to think that the great man had some involvement. Richelieu Rock is a horseshoe shaped rock that sits alone in the Andaman sea. It's nearly 20km from the Surin Islands and almost 40km from both the mainland and Koh Tachai so it's hardly surprising it attracts so much life. At high tide [...]

Hawksbill Sea Turtle Descending from the surface Rare & Peculiar Critters

Meet the Hawksbills of Phi Phi

Sea turtles make for lovely encounters underwater. In Phuket day trip destinations, the species you are most likely to see while diving is the Hawksbill turtle. The name Hawksbill comes from the narrow pointed beak that resembles a bird’s beak. An other distinctive feature is the overlapping scutes pattern on the carapace, giving serrated edges to the upper shell. Hawksbill turtles can grow up to about 115cm in shell length and nearly 70kg in weight. You may encounter Hawksbills in numerous Phuket diving destinations, with very good chances in dive sites around Koh Phi Phi Ley, Koh Bida Nok and Koh Bida Nai. Like other species of sea turtles, the Hawksbill is not bothered muc [...]

Let’s Talk About Light & Diving

In various scuba diving courses, such as PADI Advanced Open Water Diver, Deep Diver and Underwater Digital Photographer you are taught about light (about colours). The concept is quite easy to grasp as your visual experience while diving is directly liked to it. In a nutshell, light is affected by the distance it travels underwater (depth and subject distance) and topside conditions (time of day, weather and surface conditions). So it is all about how much light goes in, and how far it has to go. The following graphic from Dive Photo Guide illustrates this concept nicely. You can see that some colours, such as red and orange, rapidly disappear when going through water. So, y [...]
