The Junk

4 Days/4 Nights From US$ 960

Step Back In Time On This Historic Vessel

The June Hong Chian Lee is the most unmistakable Thailand liveaboard. A throwback to a bygone era she was converted from a merchant cargo vessel to this elegant liveaboard in 1997 and has since been an ever present in the Similan & Surin Islands. During green season (May – October) she offers short and very well priced overnight trips to the dive sites around Phuket and Phi Phi.

We know her as the ‘Junk’ but don’t be fooled by the name, she is anything but. Stepping onboard the hardwood deck you immediately feel that you’ve made the right choice. She has starred in several Hollywood movies including James Bond’s The Man with the Golden Gun and Disney’s The Swiss Family Robinson.

She has a spacious and atmospheric indoor saloon and generous deck space to relax on between dives. Food is served buffet style in the saloon and is absolutely delicious! The air-conditioned cabins are all en-suite and come in different configurations to suite every budget.

Diving is conducted from a dinghy which is accessed from a purpose built platform on the side of the boat, the ever present and helpful crew make this an efficient and easy process.

Phuket Diving Site Elephant Head Rock

Elephant Head Rock

Elephant Head Rock is a large rocky pinnacle that nestles between Similan Islands seven and eight. The strong current that runs between the two islands has smoothed the granite boulders on Elephant Head Rock and created lots of really nice swim-throughs. Although strong currents are frequently prevalent. The large size of the pinnacle ensures there is always a sheltered and safe area to dive. It's often the first dive of the day to allow d [...]

Similan Islands Liveaboard MV Pawara Songkran Trip Review

Liveaboards in the stunning Similan Islands National Park are rarely disappointing, especially on a great boat like MV Pawara. However, if you're missing the celebrations on the mainland, a Songkran liveaboard trip needs to be great. Occasionally bad weather or poor visibility can be a bit of a pain but fingers and any other available appendages were firmly crossed to ward off any bad luck. That appeared to be a waste of energy as rain greete [...]

avoiding seasickness Scuba Diving Health

How Do I Avoid Seasickness?

How do I avoid seasickness is a question we often get asked. Fortunately throughout the Phuket diving high season we're blessed with generally flat seas. Around the beginning of May we start to get a swell come in from the open ocean. Although for most this has little impact on your dive day, for those who get seasick it can be horrible but there are ways to avoid it. Not going to go too far into the science but essentially your brain [...]

Dive Computer Settings

Getting your dive computer settings right may sound obvious but on a few occasions we've had to stop guests from diving. We really, really don't like to do this but if during or after a dive your dive computer goes into error mode then we have no choice. It's simply not safe. On most of the rare occasions that this has happened, it's a simple matter of guests having their dive computer set up incorrectly. We often get asked by guests to h [...]
