Where To Stay In Phuket – Chalong Bay

Chalong Bay The Most Convenient Place to Stay For Your Phuket Scuba Diving Holiday

Where to stay in Phuket can be a bit of a headache, there’s plenty of beach resorts. If you’re coming to Phuket mainly for diving day tours then Chalong is the best area to stay. All of the day tours leave from Chalong Pier so you’ll cut your daily travel time significantly. Although getting to the pier from the main tourist areas of Patong, Kata or Karon doesn’t take too long there are days when the traffic is particular bad or one of the divers sharing your minibus decides to have a bit a of a lie in… in can then take up to an hour.

There’s plenty of good restaurants and bars on the pier road itself, so you can be happily quenching your thirst after a good days diving while the others on the trip are staring at traffic through the minibus window. There’s great Thai, Italian, Indian and French restaurants all within 1Km of Chalong Pier and usually not as busy as the restaurants in the resorts a bit further North.

When you have a break from the scuba diving you can visit some of Phuket’s best beaches again without the usual crowds. The stunning Nai Harn, Yanui and Ao Sane beaches are all just a short ride away from Chalong. Some of the most popular attractions on the island – the Big Buddha and the beautiful Wat Chalong (a buddhist temple) are also close by.

Finding a hotel won’t be a problem and every budget is catered for in the south of the island or if you’re here for an extended stay you can rent your own villa for a fraction of the cost in the major resorts. Of course if you prefer the more lively beach resorts then not to worry. We pick up free of charge from Patong, Kamala, Karon and Kata. If you’re unsure then please just ask.

Here you can choose from a selection of villas in Rawai, Phuket, 2 km southern to Chalong Circle: Rawai Villas

Diving Phuket With Hawksbill Turtles

Turtle Rock – Phi Phi Ley

If you like turtles then this is the dive site for you, it's very rare that we don't see hawksbill turtles and usually more than one. They feed on the shallow shelves that run along the wall at Koh Phi Phi Ley, so shallow that snorkelers can usually see them and quite often your safety stop is spent observing the turtles munching away on the ........ They've got pretty used to divers over the years and seem to be completely unperturbed by our presence. Even without the turtles it's quite a nice dive site, at the north end there's some nice swim throughs and the coral bommies away from the wall attract glimmering schools of glassfish and there accompaniment of hungry lionfish. Ornate g [...]

Bamboo Shark - Local Dive Thailand Amazing Local Dives

Shark Point – True to its name again

Divers will be happy to see the return of the Leopard and Bamboo shark at... Shark Point. Sightings of these amazing creatures have been frequent this past few months at Hin Mu Sang, the name in Thai for this popular day trip destination from Phuket. Shark Point is a dive site near Anemone Reef and King Cruiser, located between Phuket and Phi Phi. It is made up of three pinnacles with the most northern being Pinnacle No.1, and divers typically explore the first two pinnacles due to Pinnacle No.3 being deeper (its peak is 15m deep). The rocky pinnacles and surroundings are covered with a mix of hard coral, colourful soft coral, spectacular sea fans and huge barrel sponges. The dive [...]

False Clown Anemone Fish (Amphiprion ocellaris) At Anemone Reef Rare & Peculiar Critters

Clownfish And Their Dirty Secrets

Finding clownfish/anemonefish in Phuket is not a difficult task for our diving guides, we have four different species of the 28 known that we regularly find, all colourful and all have the quirky clownfish attitude that makes them a favourite with divers but behind the cute colours are some very strange facts. I'm sure you're aware that they have a symbiotic relationship with anemone's but this doesn't come as easy to the clownfish as you might think. The fish don't hatch with an immunity to the stinging cells of the anemone, when they find their chosen host the juvenile clownfish have to touch it gently with various parts of their body until they eventually get covered with a layer o [...]
