A Scuba Diving Holiday In Phuket – Great Diving With Lots Of Extras
There’s plenty of places around South East Asia that have simply amazing diving and in truth better than what we have here. So why would you choose a diving holiday in Phuket? We think there’s plenty of reasons to visit us and we’ll try to explain why.
Amazingly Diverse Diving
Sure if you like one particular type of diving – big animals, macro, clear water or wrecks then there’s plenty of places that will blow Phuket out of the water but how many destinations can offer all of this? It’s quite possible to tick off all of these things in a couple of days diving around Phuket. Whale shark on a wreck? It can happen at the King Cruiser, macro and mantas? Racha Noi/Yai is the place for you.
Easy To Reach
Lots of international airlines fly directly into Phuket. We’re just a short flight away from the major international hubs of Bangkok, Singapore and Kuala Lumpur. Many airlines compete on those routes so the prices are surprisingly cheap. You can get a return fare from Singapore for as little as US$80.
Getting to any beach resort in Phuket is straightforward. You won’t get a bumpy 6hr bus ride followed by a 4hr boat trip on a vessel that should only be used for firewood that delivers you to a 2hr piggyback ride on an unfortunate local. Nope, not in Phuket, it’s air-con luxury all the way.
Infrastructure
We’ve come across plenty of transport methods on our travels around Asia, some uncomfortable and some just plain painful. Travelling down a pot hole filled road in the back of somebody’s Dad’s pick up held together by hope may seem fun at the time but the laughter will soon disappear when you realise your back no longer functions as it’s supposed too.
In Phuket you generally get picked up in air-conditioned minivans with comfortable seats and working suspension! The roads are in pretty good shape and traffic in the morning flows freely. So you can grab a coffee before getting on our transport without the fear of it ending up all over you.
Accommodation Choices
There’s so many options, if you like your luxury then Phuket has a wealth of 5* hotels to choose from at very good prices when compared to other countries in the region. For budget conscious travellers, Phuket has plenty of excellent hostels that will only cost you a few dollars a night. Of course if you like feeding mosquito’s, playing with snakes and chasing cockroaches, which is very often the only choice in some dive destinations then I’m sure you can also find that in Phuket (Insider tip: You can, I used to live in such a place).
Incredible Food
Thai food is simply wonderful. Most major cities and towns around the world will have a successful Thai restaurant. The food is bursting with flavours and Phuket has restaurants that serve food from all regions of Thailand. Our on-board cook serves up tasty Thai food that you’d pay an arm and a leg for back home. Our cook makes sure that the food is not to spicy for western palates but be careful with the street food some of the chillies can be ferocious.
Great For The Family
If you’re the only one in the family that dives then you have a problem. Taking your significant other and the kids to a dive resort in the middle of nowhere with plumbing and electricity that can be only described as optimistic is not going to happen, unless of course you want to get divorced.
Phuket has plenty to do for the non-divers; temples, health spas, water parks, great beaches, shopping malls, markets, walking trails, plenty of tour options and you can even take them on our boat, children under 5yo are free of charge and adults can come on the boat and snorkel for half the price of a diver, if required we’ll even supply a babysitter for a very small fee.
So all of the above is why we think a diving holiday in Phuket is a fantastic idea
