Get Your Dive Computer Settings Right!

Getting your dive computer settings right may sound obvious but on a few occasions we’ve had to stop guests from diving. We really, really don’t like to do this but if during or after a dive your dive computer goes into error mode then we have no choice. It’s simply not safe.

On most of the rare occasions that this has happened, it’s a simple matter of guests having their dive computer set up incorrectly. We often get asked by guests to help set up the computer. There’s so many different brands and models available that we simply can’t know them all.

Switch To Tables?

Sounds a good idea? but some models will completely block out access to any menus so you can’t retrieve your data from your dive. Using your buddies or your guides computer data is not practical. You simply can’t guarantee that your profiles will be exactly the same. You may have gone a little deeper which can significantly affect your safe dive time.

Rental Computers

If you’re taking a PADI diving course with us, we supply Suunto Zoop or Aqualung i300. Our instructors know how to set up these computers so there won’t be a problem. The same goes if you’re a certified diver and hiring a dive computer from us. That being said, along with mask and fins a dive computer should be one of your first equipment purchases.

Read The Instructions!

Simple as that, every computer will come with an instruction manual to make sure you get your settings correct. Even if you’ve purchased your computer second hand you will find the instruction manual freely available online. Many modern computers will also have regular software updates so keep up to date by downloading the app that will come with your computer.

Racha Noi & Racha Yai – Dive Tour

Racha Noi and Racha Yai are two islands to the south of Phuket. The size of the islands offer a variety of dive sites that although feel very similar have a lot of subtle differences. However the clear water with little current is a constant at any time of year. Racha Noi is the only location close to Phuket where you have the chance of an encounter with a magnificent oceanic manta ray. You will have to be extremely fortunate but there is a c [...]

Diving From Liveaboards Banned In The Similan Islands

If you're not a fan of diving from dinghies then we have some bad news for you. Diving directly from your liveaboards has now been banned. It's a move that is supposed to protect corals and marine life, personally I've never seen a liveaboard in the Similan Islands National Park go near a reef. Liveaboards will have to keep their distance from the dive site or use official mooring lines. The other reason touted is safety. A diver unfortuna [...]

how to treat jellyfish and coral stings Scuba Diving Health

How to Treat Jellyfish And Coral Stings

Jellyfish and coral stings are not a frequent occurrence in Phuket. The few cases we get are mild, only requiring some basic first aid immediately after the incident. Occasionally around the coast line, we sight box jellyfish and in low season we often have bluebottles wash up on the shore. However it's incredibly rare to see either around our main Phuket dive sites. Still, the environment we choose to spend our spare time in is not risk free [...]
