Thailand Liveaboard - Deep Andaman Queen

Deep Andaman Queen

MV Deep Andaman Queen was built in 2003 and underwent a major overhaul in 2012 and now boasts one of the largest dive platforms of any Andaman liveaboard. This steel hulled twin engine boat has high safety specs and a number of cabin configurations to suit every budget. In 2015 she had a Coltri Sub Nitrox membrane system fitted to ensure every certified nitrox diver has enough for every dive on the trip. The dive deck is split over two levels. A large, spacious kitting up area and a separate dive platform affords plenty of space for everyone as you make your entry into the fabulous dive sites of the Mergui Archipelago in Myanmar. In between dives there are plenty of relaxing areas [...]

Honeycomb Moray At The Boonsung Wreck

Boonsung Wreck – Khao Lak

The Boonsung wreck was formerly one of many vessels that were used in the previously booming tin mining trade along the west coast of Thailand especially around Phuket and Khao lak. Allegedly it sank due to a faulty toilet and came to rest on the sandy bottom in just 18m of water just outside Khao Lak. Originally it was a hazard to shipping and the Thai navy dropped a couple of bombs to level it out a bit, add that to the damage created by the 2004 tsunami and we're left with something that's hardly recognisable as a boat but it attracts an incredible amount of life. Although technically not part of the Similan Islands it's used as the final two dives of many liveaboard safaris' d [...]

Take A Break From Diving and Go to Wat Chalong Temple Phuket Phuket Sights & Fun

Wat Chalong

Wat Chalong is the most important and the most beautiful Buddhist temple of the 29 or so located in Phuket. Just a stones throw from our office this stunning landmark is one of the most popular tourist attractions on the island. The temple is dedicated to an eminent monk who is believed to have assisted the citizens of Phuket overcome a Chinese tin workers rebellion in 1876. Of course being a monk he didn't fight himself but Luang Pho Cham's advice and medical assistance to the injured was believed to be key in ending the conflict quickly with very limited loss of life. Statues of Luang Pho Cham and two other temple abbots with legendary healing knowledge are prominent features of the [...]

Yellow Snapper At Phi Phi Amazing Local Dives

A Great Days Diving At Phi Phi And Shark Point

Grey skies and a humid atmosphere greeted us as we boarded our dive boat in Chalong but thankfully there was no wind or waves on the way to Phi Phi and a comfortable journey ensued with the hope of better conditions under the waves than we had above. We weren't to be disappointed, visibility in the bay at Koh Bida Nok was excellent and a quick swim up into the shallows brought a brief glimpse of a couple of blacktip reef sharks cruising around in less than 3m of water. Heading deeper we found a hawksbill turtle munching away on bubble corals and we've yet to reach 5m depth or 5 minutes into the dive! The 'finger' on the west side of the bay was blanketed with a large school of [...]

Stonefish @ Racha noi, Banana Rocks Rare & Peculiar Critters

The Stonefish

The Stonefish can be found in many of the popular day trip destinations in Phuket. They are not small, reaching an average length of 30 to 40 centimeters and up to 2 kg in weight. They have the ability to blend in the environment quite well and they can be quite difficult to notice underwater. A bottom-dweller, their appearance gives them the look of a rock or stone while they lay still waiting for a prey. When a prey is in the striking zone, the attack takes about 0.015 seconds. The Stonefish defense mechanism is the venom that they pack in 13 dorsal spines. This venom is released when pressure is applied on the spine, so this highlights the importance of good buoyancy control [...]
