Racha Noi – Banana Rock

Banana Rock is just outside the large bay where you'll probably take your first dive of the day. The topography is completely different from the bay, the shallowest depth is around 7m where the rocks and hard coral reef meet the sand. There's a small patch reef at the start of the dive where we can sometimes find octopus hiding in the corals. Swimming deeper across the sand, keep a look out for sea moths and juvenile cockatoo waspfish and explore the few bommies for moray eels and reef stonefish. Recently we've been fortunate enough to have at least two giant frogfish hanging around [...]

Phuket Diving Site - Shark Point Amazing Local Dives

A Different Look For Mondays

Local Dive Thailand now runs a day trip to Shark Point, Anemone Reef and Koh Doc Mai every Monday. These three great dive sites are regular features on the diving trips in Phuket but rarely all on the same day and Anemone Reef is often skipped in favour of the more popular Shark Point. So we've had a little change to our schedule to make sure all certified divers have a chance of visiting this trio of great dive sites. The only opportunity to visit at least two of these outstanding dive sites in one day was as part of the King Cruiser day trip but this means that divers only qualified to dive 18m had to skip one dive or as is more often the case not join the trip at all. So taking [...]

Let’s Talk About Light & Diving

In various scuba diving courses, such as PADI Advanced Open Water Diver, Deep Diver and Underwater Digital Photographer you are taught about light (about colours). The concept is quite easy to grasp as your visual experience while diving is directly liked to it. In a nutshell, light is affected by the distance it travels underwater (depth and subject distance) and topside conditions (time of day, weather and surface conditions). So it is all about how much light goes in, and how far it has to go. The following graphic from Dive Photo Guide illustrates this concept nicely. You can see that some colours, such as red and orange, rapidly disappear when going through water. So, y [...]

What Is PADI elearning ?

In this digital age books are fast becoming a relic of the past, we can access all the information we need through the internet and diving is no different. 2017 marks the 10 year anniversary of the PADI elearning initiative, the modern way of learning. Just as you can access your Facebook and instagramm accounts pretty much anywhere at anytime you can do the same with your dive theory and arrive on your holiday safe in the knowledge that you won't be cooped up in a classroom for hours. After filling out some simple forms and a quick quiz you can head straight to the pool or open water depending on which PADI course you're enrolling for. At the moment there are three main op [...]
