MV Similan Explorer

The MV Similan Explorer runs a combination of short 3 Day/3 Night and longer 5 Day/5 Night Similan & Surin Island liveaboard safaris. So if you're short on time or have too much then this could be a great option for you. This experienced operator has been successfully running two vessels for a very long time, their longevity and high amount of returning guests is a testament to their great service and rock solid organisation. The layout is almost identical to her sister ship MV Dolphin Queen. The only significant difference is the cabin configuration, there are 4 twin cabins, 2 quad cabins and 2 double bed cabins that comfortably accommodate a maximum of 20 guests. The double cabins a [...]

Manta Queen 2 Liveaboard In Thailand

Manta Queen 2

Manta Queen 2 runs a great little 3 day/3 Night trip that takes you to the very best dive sites that Thailand has to offer. The 4 bed cabins are great for families and groups. The remaining cabins are twin or double share and all cabins are air-conditioned. The sundeck is a good size and a popular place to hang out. Yellow Snapper At Phi Phi Amazing Local Dives

A Great Days Diving At Phi Phi And Shark Point

Grey skies and a humid atmosphere greeted us as we boarded our dive boat in Chalong but thankfully there was no wind or waves on the way to Phi Phi and a comfortable journey ensued with the hope of better conditions under the waves than we had above. We weren't to be disappointed, visibility in the bay at Koh Bida Nok was excellent and a quick swim up into the shallows brought a brief glimpse of a couple of blacktip reef sharks cruising around in less than 3m of water. Heading deeper we found a hawksbill turtle munching away on bubble corals and we've yet to reach 5m depth or 5 minutes into the dive! The 'finger' on the west side of the bay was blanketed with a large school of [...]

Phuket Wreck Diving Has Many Options Amazing Local Dives

Wreck Diving In Phuket

Phuket is not well known for wreck diving but we do have a few and some are very good. In one bay at Racha Yai we have 5! Ok, we're using the term wreck a little cheaply for a couple of them but they were boats and now they're on the ocean floor - so it's a wreck. Our premier Phuket wreck, it's the oldest of our recreational diving wrecks and very much worth a visit for all experienced divers. The bottom of the wreck is over 30m deep and recommended only for Advance Open Water divers and above. You can read an in-depth description of this fantastic dive site here. An old steel hulled liveaboard was purposely sunk in 2009 in an effort to take some pressure of the reefs at Ra [...]

Diving With The Olympus TG5 Equipment We Like

Olympus TG 5 Underwater Review

Local Dive Thailand had a bit of a break from Phuket diving and took the new Olympus TG 5 for a trip to Komodo, plenty of upgrades and new features to be tried out. Should have brought the manual really... A gentle macro dive to start the trip, the macro capabilities of the TG series has always been great for a compact and this still remains the same. If your not a smartarse and read the manual you'll find out that the flash in the TG5 can now be adjusted manually. Full power is extremely bright, the first nudi I took a photo of ignited... after a brief play with settings available from the easily accessible menu it was business as usual. Settings: Macro mode- 1/200s; f/6.3; [...]
