Local Dive Thailand Team

Local Dive Thailand’s amazing team of dedicated dive professionals & crew

Sir Richard Branson is famed for saying that you “should train your staff so that they could leave, but treat them well enough so they don’t” and that is the motto we work with here at Local Dive Thailand, we might be a large, tour leading scuba diving agency but we know the value of quality staff. Some of our dive instructors and guides have been with us since we first started operating, and many have been diving in Phuket & Thailand their whole lives, there is no substitute for that level of experience & knowledge and we are proud to finally be able to highlight their achievements here in the team section.

Supawee Yodnum (Pu) Tour Leader/Dive Master

Pu has been with the company from the start and is also a co-owner. A very experienced PADI Dive Master and tourleader. Pu is always smiling and makes sure our guests are entertained and everything runs smoothly on the day. We have many repeat guests from all over the world who come back every year to enjoy the scuba diving in Phuket with Pu.

Special thanks to our DM Pu, made us feel like VIPs, this lady loves her dive sites and you can tell! Always great to dive with true passionate pros! Will come back. Soumeya M – TA Member

Dokmai Chada (Born) Tour Leader/PADI MSDT & SSI Instructor

Phuket-Scuba-Diving-Tour-Leader-Born

Super organised and super friendly, Born is the consummate multi-tasker. An experienced instructor with a wealth of knowledge that she’s always happy to pass on to her students and certified diver guests. Born is a tireless worker who keeps everybody on their toes and helps keep the whole team running smoothly and deliver a great days diving in Phuket.

Special mention for Born (I hope I spelt that correctly) who made my day awesome. I felt in very safe hands and that I was clearly with someone who loves sea life and is passionate about making your experience as good as it can be – I couldn’t ask for better (and have never had a better dive lead!) I had Pu and Chock as my Dive Instructors. They were absolutely brilliant. I had a plan to dive with them for 3 days, but the experience was so good that I extended it to 2 more days BackLash237 – TA Member

Phil Rogers PADI/SSI Staff Instructor

Phuket PADI Diving Instructor Phil Rogers

Phil first plied his trade in the frigid waters in the UK and has since picked up extensive experience teaching all kinds of PADI courses. A very capable tour leader and instructor, keeps the boat running smoothly and teaches a very high standard of courses from beginner to professional level.

On the actual day, the driver was punctual, in fact the first time I’ve ever experienced in Thailand. And the rest of the day was fun fun and all fun! Phil was my instructor and safety is definitely his utmost priority. Throughout the dives he constantly checking on us even though we are pretty comfortable ourselves underwater. Thumbs up for that! My friend and I came to Phuket to do an open water scuba diving course and could not be happier with our time there. Our trainer, Sophi, was great; funny, patient and very much invested in our development. Our trips out to the dive sites were so memorable, the boat ride itself very enjoyable (with delicious food and a post-dive beer), and the diving magnificentSilvenna – TA Member

He’s been working in and around the Phuket liveaboard scene for a long time and will guarantee to find a trip that suits your needs and will very often go up to the Similan Islands with you.

Justin, our dive guide, was great finding and identifying various marine live. He was very attentive and flexible with our idiosyncrasies and made sure we had a great diving experience. trial_and_error_555 – TA Member

The Big Boss

Ruethaiwan Callaghan (Noon) PADI MSDT Instructor/Tour Leader/Guide

Noon (Boss) Callaghan

Noon will probably be your first contact at Local Dive Thailand. Even though running an established and successful dive company is a full time job, Noon tries to answer as many emails as she can and replies to our (all very good) tripadvisor reviews. Noon has vast experience in the dive business and has at stages taken on every possible role giving her a unique insight into what divers want and expect from a dive centre and boat operator.

I contacted Noon a month before our trip and she was extremely prompt in all her replies. She provided us with all the details required (price, Dive sites, Dive times etc). You can expect a reply in less than an hour(even at 1am, wow!)948538 – TA Member

Diving Phuket With Hawksbill Turtles

Turtle Rock – Phi Phi Ley

If you like turtles then this is the dive site for you, it's very rare that we don't see hawksbill turtles and usually more than one. They feed on the shallow shelves that run along the wall at Koh Phi Phi Ley, so shallow that snorkelers can usually see them and quite often your safety stop is spent observing the turtles munching away on the ........ They've got pretty used to divers over the years and seem to be completely unperturbed by our presence. Even without the turtles it's quite a nice dive site, at the north end there's some nice swim throughs and the coral bommies away from the wall attract glimmering schools of glassfish and there accompaniment of hungry lionfish. Ornate g [...]

Racha Noi – South Tip

Quite honestly we wish we could get here every trip but the converging currents from either side of Racha Noi make the South Tip a challenging dive even on weak tides. Only once or twice a month the current is low enough for us to get there but it's a real treat when we can, even the guides are queuing up for this trip! The dive site consists of a series of huge granite boulders that have been washed smooth by the strong currents, corals have a hard time establishing colonies in these conditions so you won't find too much here apart from in a few sheltered areas but that's not really what we come here for.... The site is the only manta cleaning station for miles around so any giant ma [...]

Hawksbill Sea Turtle Descending from the surface Rare & Peculiar Critters

Meet the Hawksbills of Phi Phi

Sea turtles make for lovely encounters underwater. In Phuket day trip destinations, the species you are most likely to see while diving is the Hawksbill turtle. The name Hawksbill comes from the narrow pointed beak that resembles a bird’s beak. An other distinctive feature is the overlapping scutes pattern on the carapace, giving serrated edges to the upper shell. Hawksbill turtles can grow up to about 115cm in shell length and nearly 70kg in weight. You may encounter Hawksbills in numerous Phuket diving destinations, with very good chances in dive sites around Koh Phi Phi Ley, Koh Bida Nok and Koh Bida Nai. Like other species of sea turtles, the Hawksbill is not bothered muc [...]

Black Tip Reef Shark at Palong Wall Phi Phi Islands dive tour Amazing Local Dives

Dive Site Spotlight: Palong Wall

Palong Wall is located on the west side of Koh Phi Phi Ley and is a popular day trip dive site from Phuket. The island offers an impressive sight with its massive limestone cliffs, and is also famous for its tropical paradise atmosphere portrayed in the movie The Beach. The dive site is a sloping reef dropping to a sandy sea bottom. You can find big and small things there - sea turtles, cuttlefishes, various species of fish, Nudibranches and much more. There are numerous open sandy areas in the shallows near the limestone wall. This is where most divers go on the look out… for sharks. Palong Wall is the dive site of choice in Phuket to see the Blacktip reef sharks, and you can [...]

Phuket Diving In Low Season Amazing Local Dives

Phuket Diving In Low Season

Phuket diving is fortunate enough to have an almost year round season - almost... Low season can produce the odd uncomfortable day but generally weather is pretty good in the day time with the wetter conditions coming in the evening but lets be honest as long as you can get in the water then it has to be a good day. Most days between May and October are hot and sunny just like the rest of the year and you have the added bonus of fewer divers on the boat. Our boat is comfortable when it's full but with occasionally just a handful of divers on-board it can feel quite luxurious and of course fewer divers topside results in fewer divers under the waves. The best side of Racha N [...]
