King Cruiser, Shark Point & Koh Doc Mai – Dive Tour

A Giant Wreck, Anemone Covered Pinnacles & Two Beautiful Caves, That Is Why We Dive King Cruiser, Shark Point & Koh Doc Mai

If you have not been diving on the King Cruiser you are missing out on diving one of the most easily accessible and truly alive wrecks in Thailand and by far the largest wreck we have here. There is also no chance of missing the wreck as we have a mooring line attached to it allowing divers to descend easily even in strong currents and a great way to do your safety stops. The Cruiser is 86 Meters long and some days it’s hard to see it because the swarming snapper, barracuda and other schooling fish life. Massive Mangrove Snapper and Grouper hide out in the wreckage and Nuidbranch like Doriprismatica Atromarginata cover the wreck.

Beyond the King Cruiser we have Shark Point, 3 underwater pinnacles with a spectacular array of life and famed for Tiger Tail Sea Horses and Leopard Sharks, not to mention stingrays, bent stick pipe fish and every type of moray and scorpion fish you can think of. Still not sold, well don’t forget we also have Koh Doc Mai, a spectacular wall dive that also has two easily accessible caves, one large, one small, both with a few nice hidden secrets, remember to ask your guides.

Phuket Scuba Diving Site Anemone Reef

Anemone Reef

It's immediately obvious how this Phuket scuba diving site got it's name, the top of the reef is carpeted with heteractis magnifica anemones. They do have a mild sting so make sure your buoyancy is correct before you leave the decent line. The dive will usually start at the mooring line, after leaving the mooring line you'll quickly descend to 18 - 24m depending on your certification level. Under the deeper ledges at the bottom of the reef you may find some bamboo sharks and if you're lucky a leopard shark resting on the sand. Then a slow upward spiral around the dive sites looking out for all the special creatures on the way. At the South end of the dive site there is a narrow ch [...]

Banded Sea Krait At Koh Bida Nok - Phuket Rare & Peculiar Critters

Phuket’s Deadly Pacifist!

If we stumbled across a cobra on our Phuket travels most of us would disappear into the distance screaming yet we can calmly watch a snake with a more toxic venom from just a couple of meters when scuba diving. The yellow lipped banded sea krait has a very powerful myotoxic venom and is probably the only snake you'll encounter on your Thailand holiday. The reason you may hear is that their mouths are too small and they can only bite you on the ear lobe or in between your fingers. This is a complete fallacy, there would be little use in having such potent venom if they can only deliver it to wafer thin biscuits. The reasons kraits don't bite are simple, they don't see us as a threa [...]

Phuket Diving Site - Shark Point Amazing Local Dives

A Different Look For Mondays

Local Dive Thailand now runs a day trip to Shark Point, Anemone Reef and Koh Doc Mai every Monday. These three great dive sites are regular features on the diving trips in Phuket but rarely all on the same day and Anemone Reef is often skipped in favour of the more popular Shark Point. So we've had a little change to our schedule to make sure all certified divers have a chance of visiting this trio of great dive sites. The only opportunity to visit at least two of these outstanding dive sites in one day was as part of the King Cruiser day trip but this means that divers only qualified to dive 18m had to skip one dive or as is more often the case not join the trip at all. So taking [...]

What Are My Chances of Diving With A Manta Ray In Phuket?

Your first diving experience with a manta ray is something you'll never forget. In Phuket we're fortunate enough to get regular visits from these gentle giants, they can turn up virtually anywhere but we do have our favourite spots. Lets be clear, you have to be lucky on our local dive sites but it's by no means impossible. As I'm writing this the last week has produced four sightings all at our favoured spot. Racha Noi island has a manta ray cleaning station at the southern tip, this is a dive site but one we rarely visit due to the very strong currents but the other dive sites on the island get plenty of sightings as the mantas pass on their way to the south tip. They often swim int [...]
