Racha Yai & Racha Noi – Dive Tour

Racha Yai & Racha Noi – Dive Tour

Manta’s, Wrecks & Macro, That Is Why We Dive Racha Noi & Racha Yai

Racha Noi is Phuket’s primary Manta hot spot, a cleaning station that regularly brings these amazing giants of the sea to visit us in the shallow waters of the many bays and dive sites the island supports. Racha Noi is also extremely diverse, with area’s of breathtaking coral growth and deeper places with hidden secrets among the massive granite boulders! Adding to this, Phuket is not exactly known for wreck or macro diving but if you happen to be on this dive tour you might change your mind, as one of our regularly visited dive sites at Racha Yai actually has 5 wrecks as well as a massive artificial reef of concrete cubes and other sunken treasures, these wrecks and artificial reef structures attract a large amount of fish and distinctly rare & unique macro life.

Racha Yai and Racha Noi are also amazing sites for training and diving courses, almost every dive site is a mix of deep and shallow sandy bottoms, corals, boulders and more. Advanced divers can see all of these things in a single dive, as well as marine life like Jenkins Whip Rays & Stone Fish, Giant Brown Marble Groupers and again don’t forget Manta’s. If you have not dived Racha Yai and Racha Noi then you are missing out on some of Phuket’s top diving spots.

Racha Yai, Noi Tour Itinerary

Our dive tours to Racha Yai & Racha Noi, usually see us doing the first two dives at Racha Noi, with the final dive of the day at Racha Yai. We do this for a couple of reasons, firstly Racaha Noi provides both deep and shallow diving, allowing advanced and beginner divers on the same dive tour, this way we get the deep & training dives done first, then onto Racha Yai which has some amazing artificial reef structures and relatively shallow wreck diving at around 24 meters.

Black Tip Reef Shark at Palong Wall Phi Phi Islands dive tour

Palong Wall – Phi Phi Ley

Palong Wall is all about the sharks, very rarely do we go here and not see blacktip reef sharks and sometimes in big numbers, if the visibility is good then you can have 10 or more in view. The sharks cruise around on the 5 - 8m deep shelf which runs the entire length of the dive site. They can vary in size from almost 2m long adults to less than a metre long juveniles. Our guides will take you down to the bottom of the reef at the beginning of the dive to search for turtles, kuhl's stingray, mantis shrimp and bent stick pipefish but after 15 minutes or so you'll begin to head to shallower water to look out for the sharks. It can be a little frustrating if the sharks don't show but [...]

White Eyed Moray Eel On Phuket Diving Site

The King Cruiser Wreck

In May 1997 the adventurous captain of the King Cruiser car ferry strayed miles off course on his way to Phi Phi from Phuket and with an incredible feat of marine navigation found the only submerged reef for miles around. Unfortunately the intrepid captain's wanderlust resulted in a large hole in the ferry and the inevitable consequences. So was created Phuket's first wreck dive. Fortunately no lives were lost, all 500+ passengers were quickly rescued by the Thai navy and some passing fishing boats. Theories abound to how this 'accident' came to pass. These include insurance fraud due to the owners financial difficulties, alcohol and even that the local dive operators clubbed together [...]

Cone Shell On The Hunt In Phuket Rare & Peculiar Critters

Why You Really Shouldn’t Pick Up Sea Shells In Phuket

If you want a souvenir from your scuba diving experience in Phuket then just taking photos is the only option you should be thinking about, picking up a seashell could land you in jail and if that shell is a cone shell then you could end up in more trouble - lots more trouble Being snails, unsurprisingly cone shells don't chase down their prey but sneak up on them when they're sleeping. They will bury themselves in the sand in the daytime and come out at night to hunt, this is when the nightmare begins. When the acute chemo receptors detect a fish, the snail will slowly stalk to within strike range of it's slumbering victim, extend it's proboscis and fire a venom covered harpoo [...]

Underwater Photography Getting Started Photo Tips & Tricks

Underwater Photography: Getting Started

Many do but buying and underwater digital camera shouldn't be your first equipment purchase. Be safe and confident with your diving skills before you add extra stress and a massive distraction. Getting good results with modern digital cameras is fairly straight forward if you get the basics right and by the basics I mean the diving. You wouldn't expect great photo results if you're running around or jumping up and down on land, the same applies for diving - if you're furiously kicking to hold position or rising up and down then it's almost impossible to get the subject in focus. You're very rarely going to be the finished article after you've completed the Open Water, sure you'l [...]

Giant Frogfish - A Rare Find When Scuba Diving In Phuket Rare & Peculiar Critters

Frogfish – Bizarre Eating Machine Facts

Frogfish are a favourite of scuba divers all over the world and we're fortunate enough to get them in Phuket. These weird little creatures with a face only a mother could love have many strange adaptations that make it an incredibly efficient predator and some that make it just plain comical. They generally ignore divers and photographers even when they're extremely close and very often carry on 'fishing' despite the close proximity but they do let you know when they've had enough, the yawn that every photographer likes to capture is a threat display although they have little to back up the threat apart from possibly whipping you with it's lure. Has a fishing rod! - Yep, t [...]
