Phi Phi Island & Shark Point – Dive Tour

It might not sound like fun to be surrounded by 10 - 15 Black Tip Reef Sharks, but until you've done it, you won't understand the thrill and the excitement that scuba diving at Phi Phi's Palong Wall can bring. Some of the dive sites there are absolute mecca's for Black Tips, and another one of our favourite dive sites, 'Turtle Rock' is a home for hungry Hawksbills, many of them very unperturbed by divers so they make for great muses for photographers and videographers. Phi Phi also plays host to schooling Big Eye Snappers, Golden Trevally, Harlequin Shrimp and some Nudibranch life like the Stricklandi & Halgerda families. It truly is a wonderful diving experience for all levels of certif [...]

Similan Island Liveaboard MV Pawara Amazing Local Dives

Similan Island Liveaboard MV Pawara Songkran Trip Review

Liveaboards in the stunning Similan Islands National Park are rarely disappointing, especially on a great boat like MV Pawara. Occasionally bad weather or poor visibility can be a bit of a pain but fingers and any other available appendages were firmly crossed to ward off any bad luck. That appeared to be a waste of energy as rain greeted us on arrival to the boat... The pick ups from all over Phuket Island went smoothly and everybody had arrived by 8pm. Snacks and hot and cold drinks were immediately available for the weary travellers, some had come directly from the airport. All passengers were quickly allocated cabins and a boat and safety briefing was given in the saloon by the [...]

Lots Of Nudibranchs To Be Found When Scuba Diving In Phuket Rare & Peculiar Critters

A Little Help With Phuket Nudibranchs

These bizarre little creatures are on every Phuket diving site and most stand out like a sore thumb. It's not an animal that Phuket is renowned for so if you ask your guide what the sluggy looking thing that they pointed out was you may get nudibranch as an answer and if you question further you'll run into some well rehearsed diversion tactics. To be fair to us there are so many species it would be impossible to know them all, add to that the variations in the same species, the constant reclassification and that names can depend on which book you look in you can understand why giving positive ID's is generally given a wide birth. Scientists are mainly to blame for the confusion, cons [...]

Diving WIth Alien In Phuket Rare & Peculiar Critters

Diving With Aliens

Ridley Scott's alien monster has had people hiding behind the couch for over 30 years but in Phuket we scuba dive everyday with an animal that has the same fearsome set of double jaws, luckily the penchant for snacking on humans isn't also emulated. All bony fish have a set of pharyngeal teeth in their throat but moray eels have a complete pharyngeal second jaw that they can launch forward and use to swallow their unfortunate victims. Considering it's such a common animal you'll be surprised to find out that this alien like feature was only discovered in 2007. The second jaw is lined with backward facing curved teeth that gives it's prey no chance of escape, maybe [...]
