New PADI DSD Elearning

New PADI DSD Elearning

The PADI DSD Programme Now Has An Optional Elearning Element

The PADI DSD (Discover Scuba Diving) has been added to the long list of elearning options available through the PADI App. New divers will be able to learn some basic scuba diving theory before getting in the water. It’s not extensive theory, just some basic safety rules and some insight into how pressure affects us underwater.

Is This Complicating A Simple Experience?

Not at all, if anything it simplifies matters. The prospective diver will be able to learn the necessary basic theory via a simple instructional video. A simple quiz follows, all can be completed in about 20 minutes. The PADI DSD elearning is available in many languages, it comes with all the necessary digital forms so we’re not wasting paper.

Underwater signs are included so you’ll be able to communicate with your instructor or buddy with ease. Learning the basic signs before your trip will enable you to absorb more underwater signals on the actual dive day. As with everything in life – communication is the key.

The elearning doesn’t have to be completed before the dive day. You will have immediate access as soon as you sign up. So it can be completed poolside or when you’re on the boat. This of course doesn’t take away your interaction with your instructor. Your PADI professional will have more time to explain all aspects in detail and give you extra tips and advice.

The PADI System

PADI is the way the world learns to dive. Downloading the app will get you comfortable with how PADI elearning works. The app will also give you access to more information and what your potential next steps could be. An introduction to Open Water is available so when you’re ready to take the next step and become a certified diver, the process will be an easy and familiar one. The transition to continuing diver education will be seamless because you’re already in the PADI system.

A successfully completed DSD will count towards the Open Water course. You’ll still have to complete full elearning and pool sessions but you’ll only need three open water dives.

How do I Access the elearning?

That’s a very simple process. You can send us an email or even a WhatsApp message and we’ll send you a QR code. After you’ve registered we can set up the pool session or a trip out to the beautiful Racha Islands.

What are you waiting for? Let the adventure begin.

The Phi Phi Islands are an incredible diving experience. In the first 5 minutes of your dive at Koh Bida Nok, you're likely to be able to tick blacktip reef sharks off your list. It won't be just one, you could be swimming with a dozen or more! Sharks from half metre babies up to the 2m long adults patrol the shallows of the sheltered bay where we make the first drop. A great start to the day. Then it's off to'Turtle Rock' which is home to [...]

Whale Shark in Phuket Rare & Peculiar Critters

It’s International Whale Sharks Day But What Do We Know About Them?

Well we know whale sharks are big and spotty but not a great deal else to be honest. It's a challenging animal for scientists to study. They're trying and we're slowly gaining an insight into the biggest fish on the planets life. There is a way that you can help which we'll touch on later. There's much debate about the size to which they can grow. 18m is a common figure that's mentioned but the largest verified measurement is around 12 [...]

Underwater Health Spas In Phuket

Every Phuket diving site has one of these blissful underwater health spas where the food chain is put on hold for a little while and everybody just gets along. A Utopia under the waves. Most divers will swim over them completely unaware that it's the best place on the reef to witness natural behaviour, species interaction, some killer dance moves and even marital disputes. You'd think spending your whole life swimming around in water w [...]

surface marker buoys a critical piece of dive equipment Equipment We Like

Surface Marker Buoys

Surface marker buoys (SMB) wasn't a standard to teach on PADI Open Water courses but it has been for quite a while now. Quite rightly so, surface marker buoys are a cheap yet essential piece of equipment. It's not an understatement to say that they can save lives. Along with mask and fins, it should be one of the first pieces of equipment you purchase. You can get yourself a basic surface marker buoy and finger reel for less than US$20. [...]
