Diving At Koh Doc Mai Phuket

Koh Doc Mai Phuket Diving’s Top Macro

Without a doubt Koh Doc Mai is the best site around Phuket for macro diving. The coral and sponge encrusted walls are filled with nooks and crannies that hide a myriad of small animals. Our keen eyed local guides are quick to find any new special critters. Many take up residence on this stunning limestone rock jutting out of the Andaman Sea. Koh Doc Mai translates to flower (Dok Mai) island (Koh) and there's plenty of hypotheses as to how [...]

Honeycomb Moray At The Boonsung Wreck

Boonsung Wreck – Khao Lak

The Boonsung wreck was formerly one of many vessels that were used in Thailand's former booming tin mining trade. Allegedly it sank due to a faulty toilet and came to rest on the sandy bottom at 18m. It's located just outside the port at Tablamu near Khao Lak. Originally it was a hazard to shipping and the Thai navy dropped a couple of bombs to level it out a bit. Add that to the damage created by the 2004 tsunami and we're left with somethin [...]

Let’s Talk About Light & Diving

In various scuba diving courses, such as PADI Advanced Open Water Diver, Deep Diver and Underwater Digital Photographer you are taught about light (about colours). The concept is quite easy to grasp as your visual experience while diving is directly liked to it. In a nutshell, light is affected by the distance it travels underwater (depth and subject distance) and topside conditions (time of day, weather and surface conditions). So it is a [...]

Weefine Ringlight 3000 Review & Samples

The original Weefine Ringlight was a simple affair, more of a good idea rather than a good product but the upgrades on the latest version have made it a very useful tool indeed. Brightness has been beefed up and strobe, red light and UV light features all make it a great addition to the macro photographers armoury. Along with the ring light itself you'll find a couple of spare o rings a battery charger and a rechargeable 26650 battery. [...]
