How Do I Become A PADI Scuba Diving Instructor In Phuket?

Live The Dream And Become A PADI Scuba Diving Instructor In Phuket

Being a scuba diving instructor in Phuket ia an achievable dream. White sand beaches, palm trees and blue skies need not be just the description of your yearly holiday. With a little hard work and determination it can be the narrative for your daily life. The life of a PADI pro can be idyllic, most opportunities are in amazing tropical locations with clear blue water and year round sunshine. You’ll make new friends from all over the world and most importantly get to see the big smiles on the faces of your students after their first dive experience – true job satisfaction.

Is This For You?

If you like meeting new people, have an outgoing personality, a passion for scuba diving and want to live and work in some of the most alluring locations on earth then yep, it’s for you. If you haven’t dived before then obviously your taking a bigger risk but anyone who is a strong swimmer and confident in water is rarely unable to take to scuba diving.

Really?Just 6 Months..

Well yes, there are very those who think it’s not an ideal solution and that you should get more real diving experience before even thinking about becoming an instructor. There’s plenty of instructors working on Phuket from both sides of the fence.

Points To Consider

Depending on your experience or lack thereof, it will take a considerable time and financial commitment. If you’re starting from zero (no dive certification) then it will take a minimum of 6 months and 100 logged dives after passing your Open Water Course before you’re eligible to participate in the two day instructor examination. If you’re already Open Water certified then it will still require at least 6 – 8 weeks and a total of 60 dives to get to Dive Master level and a further 40 to reach the 100 dive requirement for the instructor exam.

On your way from Open Water to to a scuba diving instructor in Phuket, you’ll have to complete the following courses:

  • Advanced Open Water
  • Rescue Diver
  • EFR (Emergency First Response)
  • Dive Master

Why PADI?

PADI is by far the largest dive organisation and being so obviously represents the most employment opportunities. They’re also the most experienced, have been around for a very long time and produce innovative and clear course structures.

What You Will Learn

Under the tuition of your Course Director you will learn:

  • PADI Standards and Procedures for courses you can teach with in water workshops
  • Learning, Instruction and the PADI System
  • Risk Management and Diver Safety
  • The Business of Diving and your role as an instructor
  • Marketing Diving and Sales Counselling

And of course how to put big smiles on your new divers faces

Local Dive Thailand and our experienced team can take you all the way to Dive Master and arrange your Instructor Development Course with our trusted partner. There’s plenty of things you’ll need to know before you start on your journey to becoming a PADI professional.

We’re not going to kid you and say it’s as easy as one-two-three but with the sound base knowledge and skills that we can provide and a little hard work and a lot of dedication from you, together we can make it happen. Leaving the rat race and changing your life for the better is only an email away.

I've been enjoying the incredible marine life in our oceans for over 25 years. 13 years ago I became a PADI professional in Phuket, hoping to introduce as many people as possible to the incredible beauty of the seas.

Having been fortunate enough to dive all over south east and especially Thailand, I enjoy sharing my diving experiences and passion on this blog.

Originally from Bristol in the UK, I swapped the frigid waters of the North Atlantic for the warm tropical seas around Thailand and can confidently say that I wouldn't go back

lionfish in phuket Rare & Peculiar Critters

Lionfish – A Smart Fish?

We call them lionfish on this side of the world but they're also none as firefish, zebrafish, butterfly cod and turkeyfish (????) in other areas. We tend to lump them together but there are quite a few different species that we find around Phuket. All have stunning warning colours, are very photogenic, show little or no fear of divers and have toxic fins that can pack quite a punch. Fortunately lionfish are easy to spot and stings are very ra [...]

Where Can I Snorkel In Phuket?

The best places to snorkel in Phuket are all found around the west coast beaches. At most you won't see much more than sand and the occasional crab so head a little south. The southern end of Phuket is much less populated than Patong and you can still find some coral reefs just offshore. The best option is to join us on our dive boat to Phi Phi or Racha Noi for a great snorkelling tour with exceptionally professional snorkel guides.. If that' [...]

Aqualung i450T Dive Computer

Having used the same computer brand for nearly 20 years, it was hard to jump ship from something that had only occasionally let me down. Especially to a brand that is although well trusted in the other diving equipment would be their first foray into the dive computer market. So enticed by a great deal and free in house quick and efficient repairs I decided to take a chance. The Aqualung i450T certainly looks the part, a sleek design a [...]
